Upcycled Picture Frame to Lovely Tray

I upcycled the picture (below) into this lovely tray for my new table in just a few short EASY PEASY steps...

I found this old picture at Goodwill and painted the frame turquoise blue with a mocha glaze on top of it.  After that, it went into the garage with all my great finds - that I'm not quite sure where to put just yet.... and it sat.... and sat....

After I refinished my table, which you can read about here, I decided that I needed a tray for the middle of it - so I went into the garage to peruse my great finds that sit....and wait....for a home, in the house.

Thus began the UPcycle!

The color was a little too bright, considering my china cabinet sits right next to the table and is blue, as well.  So I sponged on some off-white craft paint.

I then added a bit more brown - I was kind of going for the
"beachy" weathered look.

My plan was to drill holes in the sides and use twine to make looped handles, but I changed my mind.... Okay, well to be completely honest, I changed my mind ONLY because I can't remember where I put the drill! So I may go back and add them another time.

Finally, I opened the back and added some gift wrap that I picked up at Target in the Dollar Spot - you guessed it - for $1!

The cardboard was held down by at least 50 staples, and not wanting to scratch the finish on the table, I used tape to cover them up.  I also added felt corners (also picked up at Target for $1) to the bottom.

And that was it.... Finished!

I love that paper under the glass!

And I think it works just fine without handles.....

I tried decorating with different items....fruit in a filthy pretty silver dish

some white stoneware

But I'll probably keep it like this for now....

What do you think?
Have you UPcycled anything fun lately?

  11. Awesome tray! Looks really pretty. I love the way you did the frame, and your choice of paper. I think it looks great without the handles. I ran across a tray where they used an old leather belt for handles. That looked really nice. Thank you for sharing!

    Pinning!
