Halloween sign from scrap wood!

Every time I look at the sign I can literally hear the voice of the Wicked Witch...
and I LOVE it!

To make this adorable sign, I cut a scrap piece of 1 x 4 into three equal pieces.  They each ended up being about 14" long.

I then used another thin scrap of wood and attached it to all three boards across the back - like this:

I tried using small nails at first, but they were too short, so I used some wood screws to attach my back piece.

I didn't want to paint the wood...but I didn't want to stain it either.  I wanted it to look somewhat rustic.  I chose to paint it with a Valspar glaze (Mocha) that I have on hand, and then wiped it dry.

 I love the finish.

Finally, I pulled out my Silhouette Portrait and once I found this cute witch, I heard that voice and just knew what the sign had to say!

I cut it onto black contact paper and used clear contact paper to transfer to the wood.  Finally, to finish it off, I sprayed it with a clear acrylic spray.

What do you think?
Are you doing anything to get ready for Halloween?
